Goings on…
Wow, it’s been a while. Recently I’ve been focusing on my abstract-type work rather than commissioned portraits because I have two gallery showings in the new year!
The first is at the Wealden Skills Centre’s cafe (open to the public 7.30am - 1.30 pm), which the Uckfield Art trail artists had the idea of turning into an art gallery. One artist a month has the entire space to show their work for that month! I’m going in to hang my photographs on Friday January 2nd, and it will open to everyone else on Monday January 5th. They come down on the 30th. It’s slightly terrifying, but AWESOME! As far as I know I’m the first artist who wasn’t in the Art Trail to use the space.
The second will be at Haywards Heath’s Claire Hall on Saturday 21st February, with a ‘private view’ on the Friday (more details to come on that one). The exhibition is entitled ‘Art and Soul’, and is being organised by the multi-talented Laura Morgan. The day will also include: “art and holistic products, children’s art workshops and a painting competition.” I believe there is also a preliminary plan to have some of the exhibiting artists doing their thing during the day, including me. If this part of the plan goes ahead I’ll be shooting portraits for anyone who wants one, and you can see me in action even if you don’t!
And on that note, here are a couple of the images that I’m planning to use for these exhibitions:
Bryony, Nick, Kaya and Ben - Family Photoshoot
I have to say, being the photographer for a shoot where it’s your family on the other side of the camera is both easier and harder than if it’s someone you’ve never met before. On the one hand, you know them and they’re a lot more comfortable with you from the start- on the other hand, though, having your family around while you’re doing your job can be a bit weird… Especially when you have to start telling them what to do!
I’m fairly similar to how I am normally when I’m photographing people- a bit more confident perhaps, because I love my job, I love taking photographs, I love working with the unanimously great people who are my clients- and that’s going to make you happier and more confident whatever you’re doing!
Anyway, back to the photoshoot… This was for my cousin Bryony and her family, and it was sooo much fun. Everyone in my family are a little bit crazy (which helps) and very photogenic (which helps too, and has no effect on how much I love them at all ;)
Local Photographer on Show (<- That’s me!)
I almost forgot to mention the fact that until Saturday 11th October (thats the end of this week) I have some of my photography showing at Burgess Hill library!
Jo & James
Today I got to meet Jo & James who’s wedding I’ll be shooting in Battle this November (with the talented and creative Laura Morgan as my assistant/second shooter). I love wedding meetings, there’s so much energy and excitement!
The wedding is going to be at The Powder Mills Hotel in Battle- Jo was telling me about how they ended up deciging to have the entire wedding there, and about how gorgeous it was, and well… Wow! It looks just like she described, it’s lovely!
I’m SO excited about their wedding, I suspect it’s going to be a great day.
(This is my favourite!)
Frank and Josie - The Real Thing
And now I finally(!) get to post about Josie and Frank’s photoshoot in Brighton two weeks ago (which means that I’m officially up-to-date with my blogging! Hurrah! .. Wait, no… I have yet to write about the brilliance that was Mark Cleghorn’s Monkey Business… Damn… So close!) Anyway, this shoot occured the morning after the monkey business tour, and at 9am too… It was so worth getting up before 7am for!
Although I haven’t had the opportunity to soend much time with Frank and Josie as a couple, I’ve known Jose for several years now… She’s a wonderfully energeric person, and she just looks so damn good in photographs, I can hardly believe my luck that I’ve been able to photograph her twice (I did a shoot for her and out friend Marina in the pre-blog days. You can see their slideshow here)
There’s not much to say about these guys, other than how much of a joy it is to simply be around them. I’ll let their photographs say the rest.

(You might reconise that wall ;)
